Griffith Peak (11,060 feet) via Mazie Canyon

3 miles up, 4 miles down (we descended via the South Loop Trail); 3500 feet of elevation gain

Spring Mountains, Nevada. August 7, 2007

Mazie Canyon is a great and very scenic off trail class 3 route to Griffith Peak.

Even though the route appears brushy from below, it is not. There is always a good passage through all the vegetation.
Begin at the Cathedral Rock trailhead. When the trail starts crossing Mazie Canyon, leave the trail and follow the canyon all the way to ridgeline where you will intercept the South Loop trail. There are many pretty dry falls along the way and a spring flowing through the lower section of Mazie.
