*American Pikas live in rocky areas and boulder covered hills at elevations above 8,000 feet. They are between 6 and 8 inches long and weigh about 6 ounces. They spend most of the day gathering food, guarding their territory and sunning themselves on a favorite 'lookout rock'. Pikas remain active all year and do not hibernate. They rely on haystacks of plants, which they build throughout the summer in their tunnels to get them through winter months.
